Dani was diagnosed with a type of brain tumor called a Pilocytic Astrocytoma on her birthday, according to a GoFundMe launched by the Alano-Macalalag family, of Stewartsville, on Saturday, April 15.
Dani had surgery to drain the fluid in her brain and take a tissue sample for a biopsy that same whirlwind weekend before returning home about a week later. Since then, she’s been “recovering well,” the family says.
“It has been so comforting to see her back to her old self singing, dancing, and being witty as ever,” reads the campaign. “She continues to grow stronger every day.”
While Dani’s diagnosis was labeled as “favorable” by her doctors, her specific type of tumor typically grows in size, becomes aggressive, and may even transform, the family writes.
“As such, she will be under constant observation and will undergo tests and scans regularly to determine next steps,” the fundraiser says. “This will be a long journey for us but we are determined to do everything we can for our Dani girl.”
Over $2,700 had been raised in two days, putting the family more than 25 percent toward the campaign’s $10,000 goal as of Tuesday, April 18.
“This fund is to help cover for Dani’s medical expenses,” the campaign says. “Thank you so much for your support through this extremely challenging time.”
